இவர் இங்கிலாந்து நாட்டில் உள்ள கென்ட் என்ற நகரில் பிறந்தவர். இவரது தந்தை கென்ட்டை ஆண்டு வந்த எட்கர் என்பவராவார். இவரது தாய் வில்ப்ரைடா என்பவராவார்.

இவர் அரச குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்தாலும் பெரும்பாலும் வில்டன் நகரிலுள்ள ஒரு துறவு மடத்தில்தான் வாழ்ந்து வந்தார். அங்கேதான் இவர் தனது கல்வியையும் கற்றார்.

தாழ்ச்சிக்கும் பிறரன்புப் பணிகளுக்கும் மிகச் சிறந்த எடுத்துக்காட்டாக விளங்கிய இவர், தன்னை நாடி வந்தவர்களுக்குத் தாராளமாக உதவி செய்தார்.

இவருக்குத் தன் தந்தையின் இறப்புக்குப் பிறகு நாட்டை ஆளும் வாய்ப்பும், 

ஒரு சில துறவு மடங்களில் துறவு மடத்தின் தலைவியாகவும் இருக்கக்கூடிய வாய்ப்புகளும் வந்தன. அவற்றையெல்லாம் இவர் வேண்டாம் என்று மறுத்து விட்டு, மிக எளிய வாழ்க்கை வாழ்ந்து வந்தார்.

இவருக்கு 23 வயது நடக்கும் போது, தன் சாவை முன்கூட்டியே அறிந்து கொள்ளும் வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தது. அதன்படி இவர்  984 ஆம் ஆண்டு, தனது 23 வது வயதில் இறையடி சேர்ந்தார்.

Edith of Wilton was the daughter of King Edgar of England and Wulfrida. She was born at Kensing, England, and was brought as a very young child to Wilton Abbey by her mother, who later became a nun there and Abbess. Edith became a nun when fifteen, declined her father's offer of three abbacies, and refused to leave the convent to become queen when her half-brother, King Edward the Martyr was murdered, as many of the nobles requested. She built St. Denis Church at Wilton. Her feast day is September 16.

Saint Edith of Wilton (c. 963[1] - 16 September 984-987[2] ) (also known as Eadgyth, her name in Old English, or as Editha or Ediva, the Latinised forms of her name) was an English nun, a daughter of Edgar the Peaceful, king of England (r. 959–975). She was born between 961 and 964 and died on 16 September in a year between 984 and 987.[3] Following her death in 984, she became the patron saint of her community at Wilton Abbey in Wiltshire and churches were dedicated to her in Wiltshire and in other parts of Anglo-Saxon England. Her biography was written by Goscelin and her feast day is on 16 September.
