Profile
John's father died when he was young, and he was raised by a very pious mother. Well educated; studied rhetoric under Libanius, one of the most famous orators of his day. Monk. Preacher and priest for a dozen years in Syria. While there he developed a stomach ailment that troubled him the rest of his life.
It was for his sermons that John earned the title Chrysostom = golden mouthed. They were always on point, they explained the Scriptures with clarity, and they sometimes went on for hours. Made a reluctant bishop of Constantinople in 398, a move that involved him in imperial politics. He criticized the rich for not sharing their wealth, fought to reform the clergy, prevented the sale of ecclesiastical offices, called for fidelity in marriage, encouraged practices of justice and charity. Archbishop and Patriarch of Constantinople. Revised the Greek Liturgy. Because John's sermons advocated a change in their lives, some nobles and bishops worked to remove him from his diocese; he was twice exiled from his diocese. Banished to Pythius, he died on the road.
Greek Father of the Church. Proclaimed Doctor of the Church in 451.

Saint Eulogius of Alexandria was the Greek Patriarch of that see from about 580 to 608. He is regarded as a saint, with a feast day of September 13.
Eulogius was born in Syria and was a monk at the monastery of the Mother of God in Antioch. He was a successful combatant of various phases of Monophysitism. He was also a friend of Pope Gregory the Great, who corresponded with him, and received from that pope many flattering expressions of esteem and admiration. Eulogius refuted the Novatians, some communities of which ancient sect still existed in his diocese, and vindicated the hypostatic union of the two natures in Christ, against both Nestorius and Eutyches.
Eulogius died in 608 and was buried in the Church of the Holy Virgin in Alexandria.
He is known for his writings, which defend the orthodox faith against the Monophysites. He also wrote a number of hymns and poems, which are still used in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
Saint Eulogius is a reminder of the importance of defending the orthodox faith. He is also an inspiration to all who are called to write and pray for the unity of the Church.

Saint Ligorius
Profile
Desert-living Christian murdered by a pagan mob. Martyr.
Saint Ligorius is a saint of the Catholic Church who is venerated as a martyr. He is said to have been a Christian living in the desert who was killed by a pagan mob. His relics are venerated in Venice, Italy.
However, there is no historical evidence to support the existence of Saint Ligorius. He is mentioned in a few medieval martyrologies, but these sources are not considered to be reliable.
It is possible that Saint Ligorius is a fictional saint who was created to fill a gap in the Christian calendar. There are many saints who are mentioned in medieval sources but who do not have any historical basis.
Ultimately, the existence of Saint Ligorius is a matter of faith. Some people believe that he was a real saint who was martyred for his faith, while others believe that he is a fictional saint who was created by people who wanted to honor the martyrs of the early Church.

Saint Gordian of Pontus
Profile
Martyred with several unnamed companions.
Saint Gordian of Pontus was a Christian martyr who was killed in the 3rd century during the persecutions of Emperor Maximinus Thrax.

There is not much historical information about Saint Gordian. The most reliable source is a 6th-century martyrology that says he was a soldier from Pontus who was martyred in 238 AD.
However, there are many legends about Saint Gordian. One legend says that he was a giant who was so strong that he could tear down trees with his bare hands. Another legend says that he was able to walk on water.
