“கைடோ” (Guido) என்றும், “கைடோன்” (Guidon) என்றும், “லகேன் நகர வை” (Wye of Láken) என்றும் அழைக்கப்படும் புனிதர் “கய்”, ஒரு கிறிஸ்தவ புனிதர் ஆவார். இவர், பொதுவாக, “அன்டர்லேச்ட் நகரின் எளிய மனிதன்” (Poor Man of Anderlecht) என்றும் அனைவராலும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறார்.

 

ஏழைப் பெற்றோருக்குப் பிறந்த புனிதர் “கய்”, “லகேன்” (Laken) நகரிலுள்ள அன்னை மரியாளின் தெய்வ இல்லத்தின் புனிதப் பாத்திரங்கள், அங்கிகள் முதலானவைகளின் பொறுப்பாளர் பணியை ஏற்கும்வரை விவசாய வாழ்க்கையே வாழ்ந்தார். ஆலயத்தை பெருக்கிச் சுத்தப்படுத்துதல், திருப்பலி பீடத்தை அலங்கரித்தல், திருப்பலி பீடத்துக்கான துணிமணிகள் மற்றும் மத குருமார்களின் உடைகளைப் பராமரித்தல், திருப்பலி பூஜை மற்றும் மாலை நேர செபங்களுக்காக ஆலய மணியையடித்தல், ஆலயத்தில் செய்யப்படும் அலங்காரம் மற்றும் பூக்கள் ஏற்பாடு செய்தல் போன்ற பணிகளை செய்துவந்தார்.

மேற்கண்ட ஆலய பணிகளை, ஒரு வணிக முயற்சியில் முதலீடு செய்ய தூண்டப்படும்வரை செய்துவந்தார். ஒருமுறை, அவர் முதலீடு செய்த சரக்குக் கப்பல் துறைமுகத்தில் மூழ்கியபோது, தமது பேராசைக்காகவே தாம் தண்டிக்கப்பட்டதாக என்று “கய்” நம்பினார். நோன்பு மற்றும் பரிகார முயற்சியாக முதலில் ரோம் நகருக்கு திருயாத்திரை சென்றார். பின்னர், “எருசலேம்” (Jerusalem) நகரில் பிற திருயாத்திரிகர்களுக்கு வழிகாட்டியாக பணியாற்ற சென்றார். அங்கிருந்து தமது சொந்த ஊருக்கு திரும்பும் வழியில் கய் மரித்தார்.

இவரது கல்லறை, ஒரு குதிரை அதனை உதைத்தபோது காணப்பட்டது என்று கூறப்படுகின்றது. 1914ம் ஆண்டு, முதல் உலகப் போர் துவங்கும்வரை, “பிரபான்ட்” (Brabant) நகரின் குதிரை வண்டி ஓட்டுனர்கள், “அன்டர்லேச்ட்” (Anderlecht) நகருக்கு வருடாவருடம் திருயாத்திரை செல்வதை வழக்கமாகக் கொண்டிருந்தனர்.

Saint Guy of Anderlecht was a Catholic saint. He was known as the "Poor Man of Anderlecht."

Born to poor parents, he lived a simple agricultural life until starting as a sacristan at the Sanctuary of Our Lady at Laken, where his duties included sweeping the church, dressing the altars, taking care of the vestments and altar linens, ringing the bell for mass and vespers, and providing flowers and other decorations which were used in that church.

Saint Guy was born at Anderlecht, a village near Brussels, in the tenth century. As a child, he had two loves, the Church and the poor, and he wished to be himself among that special group of Christ, the poor. While still very young he visited and cared for the sick, and he was regarded by the villagers as a young Saint. As he grew older, love of prayer increased in him, and St. Guy was often seen spending his days in the church. One day when he was praying in the church of Our Lady at Laeken, a short distance from Brussels, he showed such devotion before Our Lady's shrine that the priest, drawing him into the conversation, prayed him to stay and serve the Church. from that point on his great joy was to be constantly in the church, sweeping the floor, polishing the altars, and cleansing the sacred vessels. He spent entire nights in the church in prayer. By day he still found time and means to befriend the poor, so that his generous donations became famous throughout the entire region.

A merchant of Brussels heard of his generosity and was prompted by a demon to go to Laeken and offer him a share of his business, telling him he would have the means thereby to give more to the poor. Guy had no desire to leave the church, but the offer seemed reasonable and he accepted it. The first ship caring expensive cargo was lost, and St Guy realized he had made a mistake. When he returned to Laeken, he found his place at the church filled. The rest of his life was one long repentance for his inconsistency at church. For seven years he made pilgrimages of repentance, visiting Rome and the Holy Land and other famous shrines. About the year 1012, he returned to Anderlecht in his native land. When he died in that same year, a light shone around him, and a voice was heard proclaiming his eternal reward. He was buried in the cemetery of the canons of Anderlecht. Afterwards, St guy was deemed the patron saint of Anderlecht, animals with horns, bachelors, convulsive children, epileptics, labourers, protection of outbuildings, protection of sheds, protection of stables, sacristans, sextons, workhorses; and is invoked against epilepsy, against rabies, against infantile convulsions, and against mad dogs.
