புனிதர் காப்ரஸியஸ், ஒரு கிறிஸ்தவ மறைசாட்சியாகவும் நான்காம் நூற்றாண்டின் புனிதராகவும் அருட்பொழிவு செய்யப்பட்டவர் ஆவார். அவருடன் தொடர்புடைய மிகுதிகள் ஐந்தாம் நூற்றாண்டில் “அகென்” (Agen) என்னும் இடத்தில் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டன.

பதினான்காம் நூற்றாண்டின் இலக்கியவியலாளர் “அல்பன் பட்லர்” (Alban Butler) என்பவர், அவரை “அகென்” (Agen) மறை மாவட்டத்தின் முதல் ஆயர் என எழுதியிருக்கின்றார். அவருடைய எழுத்துக்களே புனிதர் காப்ரஸியஸ் பற்றிய ஒரே நிரூபணம் ஆகும்.

புனிதர் காப்ரஸியஸி'ன் வழிபாடு ஒன்பதாம் நூற்றாண்டில் “புனிதர் ஃபெய்த்” (Saint Faith) எனும் புனிதருடனும், “அகென்” மறை மாவட்டத்துடன் தொடர்புடைய “அல்பெர்ட்டா” (Alberta of Agen) என்பவருடனும் தொடர்புடையதாக இருந்தது. “புனிதர் ஃபெய்த்” (Saint Faith), புனிதர் காப்ரஸியஸி'ன் தாய் மாமனாக அறியப்படுகின்றார். காப்ரஸியஸி'ன் வழிபாடு, அவரது சகோதரர்கள் எனப்பட்ட “பிரைமஸ்” மற்றும் “ஃபெலிகன்” (Primus and Felician) ஆகியோருடனும் தொடர்புடையதாக இருந்தது.

Saint Caprasius of Agen is venerated as a Christian martyr and saint of the fourth century. Relics associated with him were discovered at Agen in the fifth century. Local legends dating from the 14th century make him the first bishop of Agen, though, as Alban Butler writes, the only evidence to support his existence is the dedication of a church to him in the 6th century.

During the 9th century, his cult was fused with that of Saint Faith and Alberta of Agen, also associated with Agen. His cult was also fused with that of Primus and Felician, who are called Caprasius' brothers.

In the year 866, Faith's remains had been transferred to Conques, which was along the pilgrimage route to Compostela. Her cult, centred at the Abbatiale Sainte-Foy de Conques, spread along the pilgrim routes on the Way of St. James. The Church of San Caprasio, built at the beginning of the 11th century, is a First Romanesque church located at Santa Cruz de la Serós, which was on the Way of St. James.

Legend:

During the persecutions of Christians by the prefect Dacian, Caprasius fled to Mont-Saint-Vincent, near Agen. He witnessed the execution of Faith from atop the hill. Caprasius was condemned to death and was joined on his way to execution by Alberta, Faith’s sister (also identified as Caprasius' mother), and two brothers, named Primus and Felician. All four were beheaded.

In Agen, in Gaul, St. Caprasius, Martyr. He hid in a cave to escape furious persecution. But when he heard how the blessed virgin Foy was suffering for Christ he resolved to be open to suffering and prayed to the Lord that, if he judged him worthy of the glory of martyrdom, he should let clear water flow from the rock of the cave. When God did indeed grant this sign, he hastened to the contest and boldly earned the palm of martyrdom. This was during the reign of Emperor Maximian.
