Feast : Holy Trinity (07-06-2020)

*Holy Day:* Trinity Sunday
This feast is celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost to venerate the religious dogma of the Trinity, the three persons of God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The origin of the celebration of this feast was started when the Arian heresy of the 4th century was spreading among the people. Arius, a priest of Alexandria believed and preached that Jesus was a created being and denied any divinity in Jesus and also denied three persons of God (Trinity). The chief opponent of Arius was Athanasius of Alexandria, a deacon to Alexander, the bishop of Alexandria. Athanasius attended the first Council of Nicaea in the year 325 convened by the Emperor Constantine-I the Great as the secretary of the bishop of Alexandria. Athanasius sternly argued in support of the Trinity and the council adopted the dogma.
The Athanasius creed about the Trinity is as follows: 'The Catholic faith is this, that we venerate one God in the Trinity and the Trinity in oneness; neither confounding the persons, nor dividing the substance: for there is one person of the Father, another of the Son and another of the Holy Spirit; but the divine nature of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit is one, their glory is equal, their majesty is co-eternal'. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are eternal, uncreated and infinite. The Father is Almighty, the Son is Almighty, the Holy Spirit is Almighty and yet there are no three Almighties but one Almighty. The Father is God, The Son is God and the Holy Spirit is God, not three Gods but one God. The Father was not made, not created, not begotten by anyone. The Son is from the Father alone, not made or created but begotten. The Holy Spirit is from the Father and the Son, not made, not created, not begotten but proceeding. In this Trinity there is nothing first or later, nothing greater or less not all three persons are co-eternal and co-equal with one another. There is Unity in Trinity and Trinity in Unity.
The pope John-XXII directed the universal church to celebrate this festival and pope Pius-X raised it to the dignity of a Double of the First Class on July 24, 1911.
