இவர் செயிண்ட் எம்மரெம் என்ற தான் பிறந்த ஊரிலிலேயே தன்னை இறைவனுக்கு அர்ப்பணமாக்கிய முதல் துறவி என்ற பெயர் பெற்றார். துறவியான 25 ஆண்டுகளில் தன் இரத்தத்தை ஈந்து, பல துறவிகளை உருவாக்கினார். துறவிகளுக்கென்று செயிண்ட் எம்மரெமில் ஓர் இல்லத்தையும் தொடங்கினார். பின்னர் பல துறவறமடங்களையும், பல ஆன்மீக வழிகாட்டும் இல்லங்களையும் தொடங்கினார். பின்னர் 739 ஆம் ஆண்டு ரேகன்ஸ்பூர்க்கில்(Regensburg) ஆயராக இருந்த வோல்ப்காங்க்(Wolfgang) அவர்களால் ராம்வோல்டு அவர்கள் தொடங்கிய துறவற இல்லம் "புனித பெனடிக்ட் துறவற சபை" என்ற பெயர் வழங்கப்பட்டது. அதன்பிறகு 975ல் ரேகன்ஸ்பூர்க்கிலும் புனித ராம்வோல்டு புனித பெனடிக்ட் சபையை தொடங்கினார். 

பல ஆண்டுகள் ராம்வோல்டு ரேகன்ஸ்பூர்க்கிலிருந்த துறவற இல்லத்தில் தன் இறுதி நாட்களை கழித்து காலமானார். இவரின் கல்லறை அத்துறவற இல்லத்திலேயே அடக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டது. சில வருடங்கள் கழித்து அவரின் கல்லறைமேல் ரிங் வடிவத்தில் ஒரு கெபி கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. இவருக்கென்று செயிண்ட் எம்மரெமில் ஓர் பேராலயமும் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. செயிண்ட் எம்மரெம்மில் இவரின் வழியாகத்தான் துறவிகளும், துறவற சபைகளும் தோன்றியது.

"அறுவடையோ மிகுதி, வேலையாட்களோ குறைவு" என்று மொழிந்த எம் இறைவா! அன்று நீர் துறவறத்தை இன்றைய நாள் புனிதரின் வழியாக அறிமுகப்படுத்தினீர். இன்று துறவற வாழ்வுக்கென்று தங்களை அர்ப்பணிக்க பல இளைய பெண்களும், ஆண்களும் முன்வருவதில்லை, இந்நிலையை நீர்தாமே அகற்றி, உம் பணியை தொடர்ந்து இவ்வுலகில் ஆற்ற தேவையான வேலையாட்களை தந்தருளுமாய் உம்மை வேண்டுகிறோம்.

Saint Ramwold of Regensburg (Saint Rambold of Ratisbon)

Ramwold must have been born around the year 900. He started his religious career as a monk in the St.-Maximinus monastery in Trier. There he befriended another monk, Wolfgang. This relationship would prove to be a great blessing later on.

After becoming Bishop of Regensburg in 972, Wolfgang appointed Ramwold abbot of the St. Emmeram Monastery in his town three years later. Ramwold was already well over seventy at the time.

At the time of his taking-up, there was still quite some disquiet in the midst of the Regensburger clergy, and not least in the monastery itself. Ramwold was an exemplary abbot who himself did what he called others to do. He took special care of poor, sick and vulnerable people, including among his monks. In addition, he paid much attention to the formation of the young monks, both scientific and religious. During his lifetime, he had the pleasure of feeling that many of the monks he trained were called to important ecclesiastical positions elsewhere.

When his patron and friend, Bishop Wolfgang, died († 994; feast October 31), his successor tried to get him out. He even went to the emperor before that; that was then Otto III. But he was so impressed by the gray Ramwold that it turned out exactly differently than the new bishop had wished.

In his old age, Ramwold finally seems to have gone blind. But there is a story of how he once sat in worship before a cross, and how the figure of Jesus bent over from the cross with a lighted candle, healing Ramwold of his blindness.

Patronaten

His advocacy is invoked in eye ailments. The Ramwold chapel just outside Regensburg recalls this. A farmer named Jan Wolfseher had suffered eye injuries while working on the land in 1887. He solemnly promised Blessed Ramwold a memorial chapel if he would be healed of his ailment. That happened, and he kept his word. The chapel is still there today.
